Trax Quick Tips

Common Issues & Maintenance

1.4L Turbo Engine: 2015-2023 models use timing belt (not chain). Replace at 97,500 miles or 10 years. Water pump replacement recommended at same time.
2024+ Redesign: Completely new platform shares architecture with Buick Encore GX. 1.2L turbo uses timing chain, no belt service needed.
AWD System: 2015-2023 AWD models require rear differential fluid service at 50,000 miles. Use 75W-85 synthetic gear oil (1.2 quarts).
Turbo Care: Allow engine to idle 30 seconds before shutdown after highway driving. Use quality synthetic oil to protect turbocharger bearings.
Transmission Shudder: Some 2015-2019 models experienced transmission judder. Updated fluid and software calibration available from dealer.
